AC Repair in Woodbridge, Middlesex County

Posted on July 25, 2017 by Ol' King Cool Posted in Air Conditioning Repair .

Its the middle of the summer in Woodbridge, New Jersey and your air conditioner stops working. Now what, well we are here to help.

Lets try a couple of things to make sure its not something simple.

1. Lets make sure the problem isn’t the furnace

Make sure your thermostat is set to AC mode and lower the temperature setting. If you hear the furnace fan kick on, the problem probably isn’t in the furnace. If you do not hear the fan turn on then try resetting the furnace electrical circuit breaker. If the fan still won’t start, call an ac repair expert like Ol King Cool!

2. Next, let us make sure the outside condensing unit is working. The compressor (which sounds like a refrigerator and is a large unit with a fan on top) and fan should be running.

If the condensing unit outside is not working, follow this troubleshooting and ac repair procedure:

1. Caution: Turn Off the Power

Try turning off the ac and furnace breakers in the main electrical panel. Wait a few minutes and then turn the break back on. See if the condensing unit comes on. If it does not you will need to call Ol King Cool to repair your ac unit.

Do you have the right size AC?

Posted on April 4, 2017 by Ol' King Cool Posted in AC Maintenance .

Many customers purchase ac units that are either too small or too large. When people purchase large air conditioning units for their home they do so with the mis-conception that it will provide better cooling.

However, an oversized air conditioning unit is actually less effective and wastes more energy than needed at the same time. Obviously, smaller units are also not effective and in the same vane waste more energy because they need to work harder.

In both situations, a mis-sized air conditioning unit may cool a room but will be ineffective at removing the humidity leaving the room feeling damp and clammy feeling.

A properly sized air conditioning unit will effectively cool, remove humidity and save energy at the same time. Ol King Cool specializes in calculating the correct size unit for your dwelling. We use specialized software that allows us to accurately determine the best sized unit for your dwelling. This is extremely important when home owners have added on to their homes or enclosed porches, garages, etc.

Lightning Strikes

Posted on April 4, 2017 by Ol' King Cool Posted in Air Conditioning Repair .

Over the summer months we in New Jersey experience serious thunderstorms that are typical to the North East and New Jersey area.

When this happens, Ol King Cool usually gets flooded with phone calls that AC systems are not working.

What should you do if you think lightning damaged your air unit?

1 – Make notes for insurance.

Take notes and document any losses that may have occurred. Note the date and times, and if possible, take any necessary pictures or video of damage that you may see. Almost everyone has a smart phone so make sure you take pictures!

2 – Check the thermostat.

Keep it simple first, make sure your thermostat is on. See if the thermostat is lit up, and see if you can change the settings on the thermostat.

  • If the thermostat is not working, check your breaker box.
  • Change the battery on the thermostat.
  • If its not the power, call us Ol King Cool now.

3 – Check the Fan Unit

Most cooling systems have an indoor fan and an outdoor condenser, the big unit outside with a fan on top. If the thermostat is working but the ac is not coming on then check the following:

  • Check your circuit breaker box, reset any breakers related to the ac.
  • If the breakers trip off as soon as the system tries to start, call us immediately.

4 – Check the Condenser outside of your home or business

In most cases you will have a circuit breaker within a few feet of the outdoor unit. Follow the large gray colored electric cable from the unit to the side of the house and check the breakers inside.

If they immediately trip off, then call the New Jersey air conditioning experts at Ol King Cool (732) 738-8690.
