Over the summer months we in New Jersey experience serious thunderstorms that are typical to the North East and New Jersey area.
When this happens, Ol King Cool usually gets flooded with phone calls that AC systems are not working.
What should you do if you think lightning damaged your air unit?
1 – Make notes for insurance.
Take notes and document any losses that may have occurred. Note the date and times, and if possible, take any necessary pictures or video of damage that you may see. Almost everyone has a smart phone so make sure you take pictures!
2 – Check the thermostat.
Keep it simple first, make sure your thermostat is on. See if the thermostat is lit up, and see if you can change the settings on the thermostat.
- If the thermostat is not working, check your breaker box.
- Change the battery on the thermostat.
- If its not the power, call us Ol King Cool now.
3 – Check the Fan Unit
Most cooling systems have an indoor fan and an outdoor condenser, the big unit outside with a fan on top. If the thermostat is working but the ac is not coming on then check the following:
- Check your circuit breaker box, reset any breakers related to the ac.
- If the breakers trip off as soon as the system tries to start, call us immediately.
4 – Check the Condenser outside of your home or business
In most cases you will have a circuit breaker within a few feet of the outdoor unit. Follow the large gray colored electric cable from the unit to the side of the house and check the breakers inside.
If they immediately trip off, then call the New Jersey air conditioning experts at Ol King Cool (732) 738-8690.
